Hey there! I'm glad to have you here.
If you’re new, this is The Substacker, the best of the indie side of Substack, hand-picked every week. It encompasses art, science, history, books, movies, and all other forms of inspiring ramblings common to Substack. Click the link to learn more:
This week, I tried to explore a bit of the sound corner of Substack. If you are looking for some pick-me-up, I stumbled on Letters from a Hopeful Creative, a podcast in which Jen and Sara, with their lovely English accents, answer letters from the audience about being creative and self-employed. Don't worry; it's not about hustling. They are gentle and love to cheer everyone on.
Building your creative business alongside a day job
In today's episode Sara and Jen respond to two letter writers who are struggling to find the time for their side hustle alongside their day job. Sara shares her own experience of building her business alongside a day job, and Jen shares the lessons she's learned from seeing many of her clients do this too. They share their encouragement and advice for today's letter writers, and why they believe that the most important thing is to go at a pace that works best for you.
Jackie Davis
Today we’re listening to Jackie Davis, an American jazz organist from Jacksonville, Florida. Born in 1920 to a musical family, Davis taught himself to play on his grandmother’s piano and was in a band by age 8.
P.S.: Flow State has many subscribers, but it's my first and maybe favorite Substack. Perfect for listening while writing.

Plunge Into...The Podcasts You're Listening To
The reader-generated podcast recommendation newsletter starts NOW
Last week, I re-launched this newsletter. It’s now a reader-generated podcast recommendation engine. Each week, I’ll feature podcasts and episodes that you’ve recommended by way of the previous weeks’ comments on Substack.
In order for this to work, I need your (comment) help!
Is Delusion Required to Create Art?
A conversation with author Mason Currey.
Lately I’ve been devouring any books or podcasts I can find that might affirm my choice to lean deeper into living my life as an artist. Recently, on the recommendation of Anna FuscoI purchased The Creative Act by Rick Rubin and The Practice by Seth Godin. On the first page of The Creative Act is this quote, which I snapped a photo of and sent to my friend Mason Currey.
The 20% offer runs until July 10th.
If you think this edition could be of interest to others, consider sharing it.
See you next time! :)
